Headteacher's Welcome
Croeso gan y Penaeth

Croeso. Welcome.

Croeso - Welcome to Barry Island Primary School's digital gateway. It is with great pleasure that I reach out to you as we embark on the academic year 2025/26, reaffirming our fundamental purpose of providing our children with exceptional opportunities and transformative experiences. Our aim is to guide them towards becoming happy, confident, and lifelong learners. We fundamentally believe in valuing every child and delivering an outstanding educational experience within a nurturing and safe environment.

As we look ahead, I am delighted to share our school's vision and strategic priorities that will shape our educational landscape this year. Our School Improvement Priorities for 2025/26 will focus on four strategic areas:

Priority 1a – Reading: We are committed to enhancing pupils’ access to a broad and engaging range of reading materials closely aligned with the new curriculum enquiry concepts. The targeted use of assessment data and reading strategies will support all pupils, including those with additional learning needs, in developing stronger reading skills.
Priority 1b – Welsh Oracy Skills: We aim for our pupils to engage more confidently in Welsh conversations, enriching their cultural identity and connection to our rich Welsh heritage.
Priority 2 – Environment & Independent Learning: Our focus will continue to enhance outdoor learning experiences at Barry Island Primary School, directly supporting our priorities of further developing independence, wellbeing, outdoor environment and curriculum development.
Priority 3 – Teaching & Learning: Enhanced professional development and collaboration amongst staff will foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, thereby improving pupil engagement, independence and progress across all areas of learning.
Priority 4 – Antiracism: We are dedicated to helping pupils develop a strong awareness of racism and its impact through engaging lessons and inclusive reading materials that reflect a diverse range of cultures, beliefs, and perspectives.

The success of each and every child hinges on effective home-school relationships. To support your child's progress, please consider the following:

-
Reading: Encourage daily reading and engage in discussions about books at home.
-
Welsh: Practice simple Welsh phrases with your child. Please take a moment to review this website's 'Wonderful Wales' page or attend the school’s Welsh workshops for further support.
-
Anti-racism: Discuss diversity and the respect and of others, ensuring that racism is not tolerated in society.
-
Outdoor & Independent Learning: Join us for community events, including Show & See celebrations, parent workshops, and consultations.

Through effective partnerships with parents, carers, families, and our broader community, we aspire to cultivate a profound love of learning. Our commitment remains to equip children with the essential skills necessary for academic success and lifelong achievement.

I hope you find our website informative and engaging, reflecting the dynamic learning environment we have cultivated at Barry Island Primary School.
