Our new Nursery children had the opportunity to visit our wowderful school this week and meet their new teachers. We are very excited to welcome the new children through our doors in September!

The fire fighters of Barry visited  our school this week to share the importance of fire safety over the upcoming months. Our children had the opportunity to discuss how we stay safe at home and in school. Some of us even got the chance to dress up as a fire fighter!

This week Afternoon Acorns had their Show and See and Morning Mesen enjoyed their graduation.  All the children had a fantastic time sharing their learning experiences and  favourite features of Dosbarth Mesen with their families. A huge thanks to all that came and made the day so special.

Three Digital Leaders from Dosbarth Derw progressed to the British finals of the coding cup in Reading this week. Unfortunately they weren’t able to add another title to the national Championship secured last month. But their game and their marketing strategy were highly commended by the judges at Microsoft Headquarters.

Dosbarth Derw shared their Summer production, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with their families this week. The performances reflected all the hard work put in by the children and their passion for Shakespeare! The production was followed by a party in the sunshine where we all had the chance to reflect on the year and enjoy some cake. Thanks to all that came and made the evening so magical.

Dosbarth Ceirios: Term Summer2 2015

The summer term has gone so quickly. The children have turned the learning corner in so many ways.

They are caring and sharing and know what they want to learn and how they want to learn it. They know when they have achieved and can suggest ways to be even better. They have grown up in so many ways and their personalities are blooming, being confident and funny, making life in Dosbarth Ceirios a real pleasure. This term we have had lots of trips to Maslin Park and Barry Island Beach. We have enjoyed outdoor learning and had many laughs along the way.

Thank you for letting us guide and teach your lovely children throughout the year, it has been a pleasure.

Take a look at some exciting memories and enjoy our trip down memory lane:

Celyn’s Final Term in Year 4

Wow! We can’t believe that our time in Year 4 is nearly finished as we start to look ahead to new challenges in Year 5. What a busy half term we’ve had working through My Money Week, DT Week, National Sports Week, Sports Day, Summer Concert performances and much, much, more!

Sports Day was fantastic with all of the children participating and being the best that they can be.

IMG_3545

IMG_3558

Our Summer Concert was linked to our Topic Travel Agents and the children took us on a magical tour around the world and beyond!  The costumes were fabulous and the singing and dancing even better.  Many thanks as always for the terrific support of our parents to make the event so special, memories that will cherished by the children.

IMG_3641

After a very busy half term we managed to find some time to enjoy the outdoors and took advantage of our wonderful local beach.  We made new friends with Year 4 from Ysgol Cwm Clydach, where the children interviewed us for their contrasting localities Geography project.

IMG_3602

We also has lots of fun with our friends to round off what has been a fantastic learning journey in Dosbarth Celyn.

This week, Dosbarth Onnen and Dosbarth Celyn have entertained classes and parents with their summer concert performances. Both classes did exceptionally well and we are very proud of them all. Children sang, danced, acted and took on their roles with enthusiasm and enjoyment, da iawn pawb! There were smiles all round in the audience and of course from the performers themselves. Our Year 6 performance is next week!

Dosbarth Hywen and Onnen had a wonderful time at Miskin Mill on Thursday to finish their Dens and Dandelions topic.   Dosbarth Onnen had their very first school sleepover and a fun time was had by all. Dosbarth Hywen returned on Thursday and Dosbarth Onnen adventurers returned to school this morning and we hope they all have special memories to treasure.

Dosbarth Derw attended Crucial Crew at the YMCA in Barry on Thursday. They had the opportunity to explore the importance of critical services in Barry and learnt the importance of treating those services respectfully.

Dosbarth Bedwen have taken part in Level 1 cycle training this week. Travelling by bike and walking are the more eco-friendly ways to travel and knowing how to do this safely is important. We would like to remind all children how very important it is to be safe when walking and riding scooters and bikes in the local area.

Dosbarth Celyn have had two workshops this week to pilot a new digital Literacy game with Bombastic. They created mythical creatures and script writing for fantasy adventure. Year 4 also met with Cymclydach Primary in the Rhondda, at Barry Island Beach to compare and contrast localities and share their ideas and thoughts on the beach environment. After paired interviews the children played team games and ended the hot afternoon with a paddle in the sea.

Dosbarth Onnen’s Sherman Theatre Workshop

We were very lucky in Dosbarth Onnen to welcome Anita from the Sherman Theatre to school this week.

IMG_4225

First we played some warm up games in the storytelling circle.

“We had to say random words and throw a ball.” ECC

IMG_4215 IMG_4213

Next we used our imaginations to picture a woodland.

IMG_4227 IMG_4226

“Anita helped us to use our imagination. She told us to imagine that a hot air balloon came by your window. She said the balloon is flying to a woodland and you can see anything that you want. I chose to see a giant spider spinning a web in between two trees.” AE

Then we went on a hunt around the garden using our senses.

IMG_4228 IMG_4222

“We used our senses. We looked for things we could smell and touch and things we could hear.” EB

“I enjoyed looking at nature and feeling nature” AW

IMG_4211

Finally, we made a story together using all of our ideas.

We all really enjoyed her visit!

“I liked how Anita talked about theatres” OB

I liked my ideas that there were four waterfalls and they go down into a big lake. There were cranes all surrounding it.” TB

“I enjoyed when we went around the garden and smelt and felt flowers” JF
