Newsletter Friday 12th June 2015

Today we are extremely excited to announce the launch of our new website. Please take a look and let us know your thoughts. We welcome discussion from all children and families on the new look website.   Please see Miss Cadman and Mr Broad with your ideas.

This week has been My Money Week at BIPS! Each class has participated in a range of activities and projects to raise awareness of handling and managing money. The week has allowed our children to participate in an entrepreneurial challenge. Miss Cadman has given each class £10 and challenged them to ‘grow’ their balance. Keep and eye out at our School Fayre on Saturday for the products on sale as our classes battle to be the best entrepreneurs. We have had talks from Barclays Bank and Credit Union and would like to thank them for visiting classes.

Llongyfarchiadau to our cricket club who participated in the Cricket Wales: KWIK Cricket festival in Penarth. 10 Schools participated and the team performed exceptionally well, losing only one game.

Barry Island Primary School are the Welsh coding champions after winning The Kodu Kup Kymru. A team of coders were selected to participate in the Welsh finals where their game was scrutinized and they presented on the marketability of their game to the panel of judges. The children will be travelling to Reading in July to compete against the best of Great Britain.

Dosbarth Mesen have been enjoying picnics with their families every Wednesday since half term in our school garden. All Nursery are welcome to join their friends with a member of their family between 11.30 & 12.30 each Wednesday.

We are still collecting empty 2 litre plastic drink bottles. These empty bottles will be used to make a greenhouse in our Goleudy Garden. Please send bottles into school.

Representatives from our School Council and Eco-Committee presented their reports to Governors on Tuesday. The children’s presenting skills were excellent and governors had many questions to ask. Our School Committee and Eco-Committee have been very active this year, helping our school to continually improve and support our role as part of the wider community.

PC Thompson came to visit KS2 classes this week. They had the opportunity to share ideas and learn more about PEGI ratings and staying safe online. The perfect task for our e-cadets who helped guide us through the 360 safe award earlier this year.

Our Summer Fayre is tomorrow, Saturday 13th June. We ask that you come along and support the school and community on what is to be an exciting and fun filled day.

Please remember we are outdoors every day and we encourage children to wear sun cream and sun hats. It is also important that children drink plenty of water particularly in warmer weather.
