Another week has whizzed past on Barry Island. There have been lots of fabulous lessons, exciting visits and entertaining activities. To keep up-to-date with what is going on at BIPS then take a look at twitter @atbarryisland.

Dosbarth Helygen have had a very interesting trip to Cosmeston Lakes. They got to take part in some pond dipping as part of their topic, The Big Dip. All children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the day and had lots of exciting stories to share on their return.

Dosbarth Derw have visited The Barry War Museum. Children were transported back to WW2 as they wore costumes, explored the trenches and sat in an Anderson Shelter. The most exciting part of the day was hearing Betty’s stories of being evacuated and the Blitz!

The school council met with James from Pentagon Sport UK to discuss improving the playground by purchasing some new play trails.  They learnt about costing, sizing, purchasing and installing. They also met to devise a plan of action for the next term.

We would like to remind children and parents that we request the stage and sand ship are not used before and at the end of the school.

Barry Island Primary football team took part in a football tournament at Cadoxton Primary School. They managed to win 3 of 4 games and played some excellent passing football. We are sure this team will go from strength to strength! Da iawn, pawb!

We are proud to announce that we have been reaccredited with the NACE Challenge award. This focuses on the level of challenge and provision available for our children. The visitors were impressed with staff and children alike and were delighted with the teaching and learning at our school! Da iawn pawb.

Our Year 6 trainee astronauts visited St Joseph’s Primary school to meet the other budding adventurers ahead of our trip to the Kennedy Space station. The children will be preparing for the NASA camp and developing relationships with our companions, Evenlode Primary School and St Joseph’s Primary School. Blast off!

nasaFilmClub have been planning, directing and producing an informative film as part of the Greatest Generation project. Our budding movie stars and directors have been learning the tricks of the trade and collecting some very special footage. We can’t wait to see the final edit!
